| Healthcare providers are painfully aware that clinical records are fragmented in charts and electronic format across entities such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, nursing homes, consumer homes, payors and intermediaries. In the past few years Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) or health information exchanges (HIEs) have emerged as an effective strategy for enabling healthcare providers to share clinical data electronically. The eventual goal is the seamless exchange of patient information meeting the five rights – right information about the right patient at the right time at the right place to the right person.
While RHIO’s have had mixed results, a few importantly lessons are eminent of : interoperability solutions work well if minimal changes are required in the physicians and providers business processes, minimal investment is required of providers and most importantly all participants be enabled with some way to access to patient information electronically. Symphony has developed a suite of products and services in establishing and implementing technological infrastructure for RHIO to overcome the above challenges. Through our development partnership with Health Unity, we offer a complete suite of “out-of-the-box” product for HIEs.
