Health Exchanges
Healthcare providers are painfully aware that clinical records are fragmented in charts and electronic format across entities such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, nursing homes, consumer homes, payors and intermediaries. In the past few years Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) or health information exchanges (HIEs) have emerged as an effective strategy for enabling healthcare providers to share clinical data electronically.  The eventual goal is the seamless exchange of patient information meeting the five rights – right information about the right patient at the right time at the right place to the right person.

While RHIO’s have had mixed results, a few importantly lessons are eminent of : interoperability solutions work well if minimal changes are required in the physicians and providers business processes, minimal investment is required of providers and most importantly all participants be enabled with some way to access to patient information electronically.  Symphony has developed a suite of products and services in establishing and implementing technological infrastructure for RHIO to overcome the above challenges.  Through our development partnership with Health Unity, we offer a complete suite of “out-of-the-box” product for HIEs.

Our solutions comprise product and service offerings:

The HealthUnity RegHIN™ Health Information Network encompasses all our products allowing disparate healthcare entities such as outpatient clinics, hospitals, labs and radiology practices to engage in clinical collaboration in the context of patient treatment. RegHIN allows each entity in the network to engage in bidirectional, message-oriented collaboration using the latest in web services technology. Based on a federated data model, RegHIN ensures that health information networks adhere to high levels of security and privacy rules when handling confidential patient information as per HIPAA. Our Role-based security, user authentication, data encryption using Public Key Cryptographic Services (PKCS), access control rules, opt-in/opt-out settings, audit log capability and many more features make put the health exchange stakeholders at ease with respect to security. We provide the products needed for building the RHIN including adapters for existing applications. We also provide the legal framework including the complete set of contracts for making this a reality. Combine this with a mature processes and support you have the best solution in the market for initiating, implementing,   growing   and
Compliance Support
sustaining your health information exchange that has no parallel. Our unique “appliance approach” is designed to maximize data sharing at the low total cost of ownership to the health information exchanges.
  • Our implementation services focus on creating sustainable model that benefit competitive yet collaborative participants of the health information exchanges. Our proven methodology centers around easy management of cash flow for health exchanges by helping them integrate the stakeholders to share patient information in a secure, reliable, and most importantly in an incremental manner.

Why Choose Symphony?:

  • Helped a major county wide RHIO in the state of New York win a large HEAL-NY grant. The project is getting underway and will invest several millions to wire up the entire Suffolk County. We advice the principal investigators, the director of the RHIO and the various CIOs on how to build a sustainable HIE in Long Island. We are on target to be the pre-eminent example for the state of New York.

  • The technology provider for Maryland’s first operational Health Information Exchange in Baltimore, MD. This network connects disparate systems from GE and MEDITECH among others.
